Overview
The Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology serves the people and
dental profession of Ludhiana and surrounding areas by providing
teaching and patient care concerning the diagnosis and management
of disorders and abnormalities of the oral maxillofacial region. Faculty
are also devoted to teaching the treatment of the medically-compromised
patients in the aging population and teaching student to achieve
proficiency in taking and evaluating a pertinent medical and dental
history; evaluating results from a diagnostic clinical laboratory;
performing a thorough head-and-neck and oral examination; selecting,
exposing and interpreting intraoral and extraoral radiographs;
generating a differential diagnosis; developing a logical treatment plan
based on the patient’s need; performing proper infection control; and
teaching tobacco cessation.
This department serves other departments by providing tomographs, extra
and intra oral radiographs, medical laboratory evaluations, and
oral medicine consultations.
The department's educational program is present in two years of the BDS
program and focuses on developing the dental student’s skills and
knowledge in comprehensive patient evaluation, diagnosis , and treatment
planning. The scope of interest and education includes not only problems
affecting the teeth and supporting structures, but also oral mucosal and
salivary gland disorders, orofacial neurological and chronic pain
disorders, and oral manifestations of systemic illness. The curriculum
blends medicine and dentistry and emphasizes the contemporary role
of the dentist in a health care environment where he or she views
problems affecting the oral region in the context of the patient’s
overall health status and fully integrates a treatment plan and
addresses existing
problems as well as disease prevention and health promotion. The
department tries to make significant contributions to the imaging
sciences, radiation safety, and undertaking of radiation biology. Fields
of interest include;
Oral cancer - early detection and screening stress being laid on the
early detection of premalignant lesions and conditions. A center for
oral cancer detection exists which utilizes cytology and other
diagnostic aids for the early detection of oral cancer. Along with the
department of radiotherapy, we cater in addition the
palliative aspect keeping in mind the quality of life of
these patients. Special care to try to alleviate side effects like xerostomia associated with radiotherapy treatment, Active
counseling is
provided to patients with tobacco and alcohol habits to enable cessation.

Department Mission
The mission of the department is to utilize the disciplines of the
department to support the Christian Dental College and the Christian
Medical College in their mission & goals for education, research,
Patient care and services.
