Overview
It is said that "child is the father of man", Dentistry for children is
perhaps the most needed yet the most neglected of all services provided
by the dental professionals. Earlier the dreaded dental visits were
meant only to pull out a tooth which caused nagging pain. Now-a-days
dentistry has spread its wings far and wide to include various branches,
pediatric dentistry being one among them. Pedodontic knowledge too is
expanding and encompassing wider areas of interest. Practicing exemplary
dentistry in children is not easy, as it requires more than routine
dental knowledge.
PEDODONTICS IS THAT BRANCH OF DENTISTRY CONCERNED WITH
PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE DENTAL CARE AND TREATMENT FOR THE CHILD
PATIENT. TREATMENT IS BASED ON THE CHILD’S TEMPERAMENT AND BEHAVIOUR.
Course Offered
B.D.S COURSE: Pedodontics and preventive dentistry is taught as a
subject at 3rd and 4th B.D.S levels. A low teacher-student ratio ensures
that student and patient both receive personalized attention and direct
supervision. Interns are encouraged to independently handle
uncomplicated cases.
M.D.S COURSE: The M.D.S course started in the year 2002-2003 and is
recognized by BABA FARID UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES, FARIDKOT,
PUNJAB.
The P.G programme, though still in its infancy, is moulded in such a way
as to suit the needs of the years to come. A separate P.G. clinic in the
department is well equipped to meet the needs of the post-graduates and patients. A clinical laboratory is attached to the P.G. clinic.
Every year, 4 students are admitted through an all-India entrance
examination held in the month of January.50% of the seats are reserved
for the Christian minority candidates and remaining 50% are for the open
general category.
