Internal Medicine is a
non-surgical medical specialty concerned with diseases of internal
organs in adults. Physicians at Christian Medical College and Hospital
are specialized in the field of internal medicine, to prevent and manage
complex disorders of the body. The department is divided into three
units- Red, Green and Blue.
Blue Medicine Unit The Blue
unit of Medicine runs outpatient clinics exclusively for the patients
with solid tumors and haematological malignancies. Day care for
outpatient chemotherapies is also organized for these clinics. Patients
requiring evaluation or chemotherapy on an inpatient basis are admitted
in Blue Medicine unit and managed from there. The unit deals
with diseases of joints and ligaments (rheumatology).
Green Medicine
Unit The Green
Unit is one of the general medicine units, and also specializes in
pulmonology. The unit is headed by Dr. P.K. Dandona. Following are the
special investigations take place in the pulmonary function laboratory
in the dept:

Non-invasive ventilation
Bronchoscopy
Charity Clinic: One or two lecturers attend the charity
clinic held every Wednesday to cater the not so fortunate populace of Ludhiana TuberculosisThe department
has been participating in the government DOTS programme for one year
(Directly Observed Treatment Programme). Patients are examined, given a
free box of the full course of medicines, and they return to the
department twice a week for follow-up. Those living further from CM will
be referred to their nearest DOTS centre
Red Medicine Unit
The first Head of the Red Unit , Dr Mary Mathew,
was one of the early graduates of CMC. She was followed by Dr. K.L. Dhar,
who started diabetic work at CMC. Now that there are modern developments
and new therapies, so much more can be done for these patients. A major
interest in this section is the control of diabetes, including clinics,
the Diabetic Club, and participation in World Diabetic Day including
provision of a free camp.
