When Dr. Brown began
the North India School of Medicine for Christian Women there were 4
medical students and one full time faculty member, Dr. Brown herself.
After Independence the Licentiate course was abolished and the MBBS
degree was introduced. In 1964, the department of Medicine attained the
requisite number of teachers and services to the extent that it was
upgraded to train post graduates in Medicine, leading to the M.D degree.
Specialties in Gastroenterology, Cardiology and Medical Oncology were
started during 1966 - 1987. Further specialties such as Neurology,
Nephrology and Haematology were added till 1993.
