C.M.C was the
first hospital in North India to start Peritoneal Dialysis (P.D).
Initially it was done by the Department of Surgery in the
mid-sixties. In 1970-71 a 3 bed Renal Unit for Peritoneal Dialysis
was started in the Department of Medicine. Since 1971 regular
peritoneal dialysis and percutaneous kidney biopsies have been done.
In January 1988 an independent Nephrology Unit was created with
facilities for Haemodialysis and later on for Renal Transplantation.
Currently in addition to these facilities, the Unit has been
performing plasmapheresis, slow continuous therapies (continuous
veno-veno haemodialysis, continuous veno-venous haemofiltration,
continuous arterio-venous haemodialysis and charcoal haemoperfusion. |
