Overview

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is the specialty of dentistry and pathology that deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. It is a science that investigates the causes, processes, and effects of these diseases. The practice of oral pathology includes research, diagnosis of diseases using clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical, or other examinations.

The Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology department at Christian Dental College provides a full range of diagnostic services including a comprehensive evaluation, review of medical history and radiographic images. When indicated, immunohistochemical and molecular diagnostic assessments are performed. In addition, we offer second-opinion consultation services, reviewing slides referred to us.

The pathologists encourage any practitioner with a question or concern related to Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology to communicate directly; we would be happy to discuss cases or answer questions related to the diagnosis of the oral disease.

Key Features

• The Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology department performs diagnostic evaluations of specimens from the Oral and Maxillofacial regions.
• This would include Histopathology, Cytology, Oral Microbiology & Haematology: diagnosis of diseases of the oral cavity, face and salivary glands.
• It provides specialized diagnostic services to the other departments.
• The department utilizes a research microscope, equipped with an image analysis system, polarizing and photomicrographic attachments, and a stereomicroscope.
• Areas of specific interest of the faculty are Premalignancy, Oral cancer, Cysts and Tumors of the head and neck region and Forensic Odontology.
• The laboratory also serves as a resource for research projects developed by the Postgraduate residents and faculty of the College.
