Hello, my name is Dr. Manasi Gupta. I completed my DM in Clinical Haematology from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, between May 2022 and May 2025.
Before joining the program, I had heard many positive things about the department, but my experience during these three years was even better than what I had expected. The training provides excellent exposure to a wide spectrum of haematological disorders, both benign and malignant. One of the unique strengths of the program is that residents are encouraged to actively participate in patient care and discuss OPD cases from the first year itself, which greatly enhances clinical learning and confidence.
The academic environment in the department is extremely strong, with regular seminars, journal clubs, and interdepartmental meetings. We also had opportunities to participate in academic sessions with reputed institutes such as PGI Chandigarh, ACTREC Mumbai, and Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, Delhi.
Another major strength of the program is the mentorship and supportive environment within the department. All residents are treated equally and encouraged to grow academically and professionally. Our Head of Department, Dr. M. Joseph John, has played a key role in creating this environment. Sir is always approachable and encourages us to stay curious, think independently, and enjoy the process of learning.
The program also provides excellent laboratory and transplant exposure. We had a dedicated posting at CMC Vellore, which allowed us to complete important components of laboratory training at one of the pioneer haematology centres in the country. In addition, we gained exposure to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation including matched related donor, matched unrelated donor, and haploidentical transplants. Since Dr. Shruti Kakkar joined the department, the paediatric haematology exposure has also expanded significantly, which adds great value to the overall training.
Residents are strongly encouraged to participate in research and attend conferences. During my training, I had the opportunity to attend multiple national conferences and even an international conference in Singapore with full support from the department.
The training I received at CMC Ludhiana has played a significant role in shaping my professional journey and has opened up excellent career opportunities for me, even in competitive regions such as Delhi NCR.
