Starting in the year 1949 with the tutelage of Dr. William Virgin and continuing the legacy of stalwarts like Dr. Ronald J Garst and Dr. Lionel H Lobo, the Department of Orthopaedics would become a distinct yet integral part of the ethos of this prestigious institution.
Continuing the legacy set forth by the Dame Dr.Edith Mary Brown, this Department would year after year set examples in serving the community and providing excellence not just in the training but also in contributing to advancement of Orthopaedics at the hands of some of the finest surgeons to have been graced by values set forth at the time of inception.
The values can broadly stated as follows:

- Dedication with regards to learning and being better Doctors.
- Undying service to the local community.
- Training the next generation of trailblazers.
With all these core principles set in stone, we have time and again changed many afflicted lives for the better, be it either through care of the trauma cases that are seen routinely and appropriately managed or through the high volume of deformity corrections seen here.
Touching upon the part about deformity corrections, led by Dr. Bobby John who with his years of wisdom and experience has made many lives better for decades. This knowledge and hard work has been supported with the financial backing of the Rock Foundation that ensures procedures which would otherwise be really inaccessible and out of reach to the needy.
