About Us

The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, C.M.C. & Hospital, Ludhiana is the first Centre for Microvascular Surgeries in North India, since its inception in 1969 with Dr. T.C. Feierabend as its Unit Head who did 1st Microsurgical replant of amputated finger in 1976. The Unit was given status of a department in 1988 which was headed by Dr. R.N. Bindra. Both Dr. Feierabend and Dr Bindra with their vast knowledge, expertise and skills started 1st Burn Unit in North India.

Dr R.N. Bindra was succeeded by Dr. Abraham G Thomas who did 1st face replant in 1994. The department continued to maintain the standards of excellence since then and has mentored 56 medical professionals so far after the M. Ch training programme was approved by the Medical Council of India in 1974 and continuing with the admission of 2 candidates per year.
